The Panduit PUP6004BL-ULP delivers Cat 6 performance in a plenum-rated (CMP-LP) package engineered for commercial IP surveillance, access control, and structured cabling deployments where air-handling compliance is mandatory. Built on 23 AWG solid copper conductors with FEP/polyolefin insulation and an integrated cross-divider, this 1000 ft reel of TX6000™ U/UTP cable meets TIA-568.2-D Category 6 channel requirements while maintaining low smoke and flame-spread characteristics required by NEC Article 725 and IBC Section 803 for plenum installations. Black PVC jacket provides discreet routing in exposed ceiling grids and cable trays.
Panduit's TX6000™ series addresses the dual challenge of 10GBASE-T future-readiness and plenum fire code compliance in a single cable platform. The PUP6004BL-ULP uses 23 AWG solid bare copper conductors (not copper-clad aluminum) twisted to precise pair lays, separated by a continuous cross-shaped polyolefin divider that locks pairs into quadrants and prevents them from bundling together under tension. This mechanical isolation is critical in alien crosstalk mitigation — when you're running 48-port switch drops in a common tray, ANEXT from adjacent cables is the limiting factor in 10GBASE-T performance. The cross-divider also stabilizes pair-to-pair capacitance and return loss across the full 1000 ft pull, which translates to lower failure rates during TIA-568 field testing with a DTX or DSX CableAnalyzer. FEP (fluorinated ethylene propylene) primary insulation over the copper gives you a 1.45 dielectric constant and dissipation factor below 0.0001, maintaining signal integrity at 250 MHz and beyond. The CMP-LP jacket compound meets UL 910 Steiner Tunnel Test requirements — peak optical density ≤0.50, average optical density ≤0.15, flame spread ≤5 ft — making this cable legal for horizontal distribution above suspended ceilings, in HVAC plenums, and in raised-floor air plenums without the cost and labor of EMT or plenum-rated conduit. Black jacket color is a practical choice for open-ceiling commercial spaces (warehouses, big-box retail, logistics hubs) where exposed cable runs need to blend with black structure, and for cable tray installations where visual organization by color would be helpful (black = data, blue = access control, etc.).
This cable is purpose-built for permanent horizontal link installations — the 23 AWG solid conductor construction provides the mechanical stiffness and punch-down termination reliability required by TIA-568.2-D Section 6.2.3, but it is not suitable for patch cords or repeated flexing (use stranded cable for those applications). Typical deployment is a home-run from an IDF to a consolidation point or device — IP camera to PoE switch, card reader to access controller, VoIP phone to edge switch. The 1000 ft reel length supports single-pull horizontal runs up to the 90-meter permanent link limit (295 ft) with ample slack for dressing into cable tray, dropping to device height, and terminating at both ends. For IP surveillance integrators, this cable is compatible with 4K cameras drawing up to 25.5W (PoE+ Type 3) or 8MP multi-sensor cameras drawing up to 71W (PoE++ Type 4) at distances up to 100 meters, assuming you're using a PSE that supports 4PPoE (power over all four pairs). At 700 MHz, this cable also handles HDBaseT-over-Cat 6 for AV-over-IP installations — 1080p60 4:4:4 video, embedded audio, 100BASE-T, and control signals over a single Cat 6 link to 100 meters. The U/UTP (unshielded twisted pair) construction is appropriate for environments with low to moderate EMI — if you're installing in a datacenter with 400A bus duct overhead or in an industrial facility with VFD motor controllers, consider Panduit's F/UTP (foil-shielded) plenum cable instead. The cross-divider geometry in the PUP6004BL-ULP is NOT compatible with Panduit's Mini-Com TX6 PLUS jacks — you must use TX6000-series jacks (CJ688T, CJ6X88T) or field-term plugs (MP588) that are designed for divided-pair cable. Mixing cable and connector families will fail TIA-568 return loss and NEXT specs.
Panduit PUP6004BL-ULP is third-party verified to TIA-568.2-D Category 6 component requirements and UL Listed under UL 444 (Communications Cables) and UL 13 (Power-Limited Circuit Cables) with CMP-LP flame rating. It carries CSA C22.2 No. 214 certification (cULus mark) and meets RoHS 3 (2015/863/EU) material restrictions. The TX6000™ system holds a 20-year warranty when installed per Panduit's guidelines and registered within 90 days — channel certification with a Fluke or Ideal Networks tester, using TX6000 jacks and panels exclusively, with all components sourced from the same distribution generation. This cable is manufactured in ISO 9001-certified facilities and ships in reel-in-box packaging (23 lb / 10.4 kg net weight) with inside-pull dispensing to prevent kinking during payout. For large projects, Panduit offers custom reel lengths (up to 5000 ft) and can pre-print sequential footage markings on the jacket at 1 ft or 1 m intervals (custom order, MOQ applies). When specifying cable for NEC Class 2 power-limited circuits (typical for access control and IP intercom), verify that your PSE is UL 62368-1 Listed and does not exceed the cable's 30V / 2A pair-current limit — this is relevant for high-power PoE applications where you're pushing 90W+ over four pairs. Standard Cat 6 cable like the PUP6004BL-ULP is rated for bundled ambient temperature of 60°C; if you're filling cable tray to >40% capacity in a hot plenum, derate your PoE power budget or specify low-temperature-rise cable (LTR suffix) to avoid exceeding conductor temperature limits under sustained load.
