• Die-Cast Aluminum, Anti-Rotation Locators: Heavy 1/4" aluminum construction resists prying and impact. Locators (mechanical stops) prevent cylinder rotation inside the housing, eliminating the operational headache of a loose or spinning key cylinder that interrupts switch contact. No set screws means no periodic tightening maintenance.

Deployment Considerations:

• The CM-1020 is a momentary-contact device — holding the key down doesn't lock in the strike energization. If your application requires sustained strike unlock (e.g., a timed door-hold relay), you must wire through an external 30VDC relay or timer module. Failure to do so means the door striker de-energizes the instant the key is released, potentially creating an access denial if there's no fallback latch.
• Mortise cylinders are mechanical — they wear. Over 5-10 years of heavy use (e.g., a loading dock accessed 20+ times per day), the cylinder may become stiff or intermittently fail to turn. Stock spare 1 1/8" cylinders and plan for periodic replacement. The swap is a 5-minute field job (undo fasteners, slide out old cylinder, slide in new one, no rewiring required).
• Surface-mount geometry means the switch sits proud of the wall. In high-traffic or public-access zones, the protruding cylinder is visible and potentially tempting to shoulder-check or deliberately strike. Mount in a sheltered alcove or behind a retractable access panel whenever possible to reduce accidental damage and tampering risk.
• Test wiring polarity before final installation. The color-coded leads follow standard convention, but field terminations vary. Always verify N/O and N/C continuity with a multimeter, and confirm strike energization during key insertion before securing the housing. A miswired N/C contact fed to a relay can invert logic and cause the door to lock instead of unlock.
• The 30VDC supply must be a regulated, fused access control PSU — not an automotive 30V battery or unregulated wall supply. Voltage spikes from relay coil collapse can damage the switch contacts. Use a UL-listed 30VDC supply with at least 4A capacity and a 2A fuse upstream of the switch.

The CM-1020 is the right choice for integrators and facility managers who need keyed manual override without digital complexity, battery dependency, or network latency.
