Description

Panduit A2-38R-C Tin-Plated Copper Compression Lug

The Panduit A2-38R-C Pan-Lug compression terminal provides a UL-listed mechanical connection for 2 AWG battery cables and power distribution terminations requiring a 3/8" stud mounting point. Tin-plated copper construction delivers low contact resistance across temperature extremes common in UPS rooms, telco battery strings, and outdoor power enclosures. Sold in 100-piece contractor packs for multi-rack installations.

Key Features

  • 2 AWG wire capacity with 3/8" stud mounting hole — direct fit for standby battery terminals and DC bus bars
  • Tin-plated copper barrel resists galvanic corrosion in mixed-metal environments and maintains conductivity over decades
  • Flared wire entry funnel guides stranded conductors into compression zone — reduces prep time and seated-strand rejects
  • Embossed wire-size marking eliminates field measurement errors during rapid deployment or retrofit
  • cULus Listed under UL 486A-486B for 600V power applications — inspector-ready for AHJ signoff
  • Meets US Military wire pull-out specifications — handles vibration and thermal cycling without creep failure

Pan-Lug compression terminals form gas-tight molecular bonds under hydraulic crimping pressure, eliminating the spring-back and strand-breakage issues common with mechanical set-screw lugs. The 2 AWG capacity lands between #4 and #1/0 in the Panduit sizing ladder, fitting the mid-range battery strings found in 1500–3000VA UPS systems and 12/24VDC access-control power supplies. Tin plating over oxygen-free copper provides 7–10 milliohm contact resistance when properly crimped — measurably lower than bare copper after the first thermal cycle oxidizes unplated surfaces.

The flared entry bell reduces installation time in dense battery cabinets where installers work at awkward angles. Stranded #2 conductors seat fully in a single insertion without pre-twisting or strand fold-back, and the embossed size marking remains visible after years of service — critical during emergency retrofits when original wire labeling has degraded. The 3/8" stud size matches OEM battery terminals from CSB, Yuasa, and Enersys, as well as standard DC distribution blocks and shunt-trip breaker lugs.

Compression tooling for the A2-38R-C includes Panduit CT-1550 (manual hydraulic), CT-2760C (battery hydraulic), and CT-4001 (12-ton bench press). Proper crimp depth produces a visible hex impression around the barrel circumference with no copper extrusion past the die shoulder. Installers working under NFPA 70 (NEC) Article 110.14 and 690.50 for DC circuit terminations will find the cULus listing and military pull-out certification cover the two most common objection points during solar, telecom, and fire-alarm inspections. The 100-pack configuration supports repeatable purchasing for integrators installing multi-site battery backup or running continuous DC feeder upgrades across campus installations.
