The JL308A is a 40G QSFP+ bidirectional (BiDi) transceiver designed for Aruba switching infrastructure where 40GbE uplinks need to run over existing 2-strand multimode fiber — the same dual-strand cabling already in place for 10G runs. Rather than pulling new 8-fiber MPO trunks to hit 40G, this module delivers full 40G throughput on a standard LC duplex connection up to 150 meters, making it a practical upgrade path in data centers and campus cores where MPO re-cabling is not budgeted.
Designed for HPE Aruba switches with QSFP+ slots. Intended for use with OM3 or OM4 multimode fiber terminated in LC connectors. The 150m reach covers intra-building backbone runs typical in enterprise campus and data center environments. Both ends of the link must use matching BiDi QSFP+ transceivers — a standard QSFP+ SR4 or LR4 module will not interoperate with the JL308A. Verify QSFP+ slot availability and BiDi transceiver support in your specific Aruba switch model's compatibility matrix before ordering.
Requires 2-strand LC multimode fiber — this transceiver does not use MPO/MTP connectors. Ensure fiber polarity is correctly matched at both ends; BiDi modules use separate wavelengths per direction on a single fiber strand, so polarity reversal will prevent link establishment. Clean LC ferrules before insertion — contamination at 40G rates causes disproportionate signal degradation.
