Description

APC by Schneider Electric RBC5 Replacement Battery Cartridge #5

Overview

The RBC5 is a factory-new, genuine sealed lead acid (VRLA) replacement battery cartridge designed to restore runtime capacity in compatible APC UPS units that have degraded beyond acceptable thresholds. When a UPS battery fails a self-test or runtime drops noticeably, swapping to the RBC5 brings the unit back to spec without replacing the entire UPS chassis — the correct call when the hardware itself is otherwise serviceable. The RBC5 measures 94 mm wide × 129.5 mm deep × 149.9 mm tall, so confirm clearance inside the UPS enclosure before ordering.

Compatibility

The RBC5 is the designated replacement cartridge for a specific subset of APC by Schneider Electric UPS units. Confirmed compatible families include the APC Back-UPS CS series (BK350, BK500, BR500) and select Smart-UPS models. Always cross-reference the RBC number printed on your existing battery or listed in your UPS documentation before ordering — APC uses numbered cartridge IDs (RBC5, RBC7, RBC8, etc.) specifically to prevent battery mismatches across similar-looking enclosures. Using the wrong RBC designation risks improper fit or electrical incompatibility.

Installation Notes

Operating temperature range is 0–40 °C; do not install or store in environments outside this range, as extreme heat accelerates VRLA self-discharge and shortens service life. Relative humidity tolerance is 0–95% (non-condensing) — condensation inside the UPS bay is the primary field cause of premature battery corrosion. The VRLA chemistry is sealed and maintenance-free: no electrolyte topping required. Dispose of the spent cartridge through a certified lead acid battery recycler — VRLA batteries contain regulated materials and cannot go in general waste. Follow APC's published hot-swap procedure for your specific UPS model; most RBC-series cartridges are user-replaceable without powering down the connected load, but verify this for your unit before proceeding.
