Description

Panduit CFAPPBL2A Opticom Angled Fiber Patch Panel

The Panduit CFAPPBL2A delivers modular, high-density fiber termination in a 2 RU angled patch panel designed for enterprise networks, data centers, and surveillance headends where rack space is constrained and future fiber counts are uncertain. Accommodating up to eight Opticom cassettes or FAP adapter panels, this front-loading panel works with Panduit FMT1A and FMT2A mounting trays to provide scalable patching from 24 to 192+ fibers in a single 2 RU footprint. The angled port orientation reduces bend radius stress at the patch cord connection point and improves technician access during adds, moves, and changes—critical advantages in fully populated racks or installations where the panel sits below overhead cable trays.

Key Features

  • Angled front access improves patch cord routing and reduces bend radius stress at connector interface
  • Holds up to 8 Opticom cassettes or FAP adapter panels in 2 RU; scales from 24 to 192 fibers per panel depending on cassette density
  • Compatible with Panduit FMT1A and FMT2A fiber management trays for integrated cable routing and strain relief
  • Black powder-coated steel construction for durability in high-use patching environments
  • Standard 19-inch EIA rack mount; includes mounting hardware for two-post and four-post racks
  • Front-loading cassette insertion allows service without rear access or cable disruption
  • OM3-ready platform; supports all Opticom LC, SC, ST, and MPO cassette configurations
  • Meets TIA/EIA-568-C.3 performance standards and RoHS compliance requirements

The Opticom cassette-based architecture separates the passive panel housing from the active fiber termination modules, letting you deploy exactly the port count and connector type required today while preserving the option to add capacity or change media types without replacing the panel. Each cassette slides into the front of the CFAPPBL2A and locks into place, presenting a pre-terminated connector interface that can be single-mode or multimode, LC or MPO, depending on the cassette model you select. This modularity is essential in phased build-outs—install the panel during initial rack build, populate two cassettes for the first zone, and add cassettes as new building floors or surveillance zones come online. The 2 RU height delivers better fiber-per-RU density than traditional 1 RU panels (which typically max out at 24 LC duplex), especially when you populate the CFAPPBL2A with high-density MPO cassettes that break out to 24 LC duplex each. In a full eight-cassette configuration using 24-port LC modules, you achieve 192 LC simplex terminations in 2 RU—96 fibers per RU, well above the density of fixed-port alternatives. This density advantage matters in core distribution rooms where every RU counts and fiber demand grows annually.

Angled panels are preferred in installations where the patch panel sits low in the rack (below U10) or where overhead cable management limits downward patch cord bend radius. The angled port face tilts the connector body away from the panel, reducing the minimum bend radius required to route patch cords down to switches or media converters in lower RU positions. This design also improves visibility and finger access when the rack is fully populated—technicians can see port labels and insert/remove connectors without contending with horizontal cable bundles or adjacent equipment. If you're deploying in a two-post relay rack or open-frame installation where rear access is available but lateral space is tight, the CFAPPBL2A's front-load design keeps all service activity on the front face; cassettes insert and lock from the front, and all patching is done from the front, so you never need to swing the rack or remove rear panels during MAC work. The panel works with Panduit FMT1A and FMT2A trays, which mount behind the panel and provide integrated slack storage, strain relief boots, and routing fingers for both incoming trunk cables and outgoing patch cords. The tray-plus-panel combination creates a complete fiber management system: trunk cables land on the tray, splice or terminate into cassettes, and patch cords exit the angled cassette ports with controlled bend radius and strain relief at every transition point.

Built from black powder-coated steel rated for continuous use in 23–40 RU racks, the CFAPPBL2A meets TIA/EIA-568-C.3 mechanical and performance standards for fiber distribution hardware. The powder coat finish resists corrosion and wear from repeated cassette insertion and removal, and the 19-inch mounting ears include both threaded and slotted holes to fit square-hole, round-hole, and threaded rack rails without adapters. Panduit includes cage nuts and screws for immediate installation in standard two-post and four-post racks. The panel ships empty (cassettes and trays sold separately), giving you full control over the termination strategy—preterminated MPO trunk-to-cassette for speed, field-terminated LC cassettes for cost control, or a hybrid approach where you use preterminated cassettes for backbone links and field-term for access-layer drops. For integrators managing large-scale fiber deployments across multiple sites, the Opticom platform's modularity and field-swappable cassettes reduce the variety of spare parts you need to stock; one CFAPPBL2A panel model works for single-mode, multimode, LC, SC, or MPO applications, and only the cassettes change based on your specific link requirements.
