Description

Altronix AL1024NKA8QM Networked Dual Voltage Access Power Controller with Power Supply/Charger

Overview

The Altronix AL1024NKA8QM is a networked dual voltage access power controller designed to deliver filtered, electronically regulated power to access control systems, door locks, and ancillary security devices. This sub-assembly kit converts 115VAC 60Hz input into eight independently controlled outputs, providing flexible voltage selection—12VDC or 5VDC up to 6A, and/or 24VDC up to 10A—with a combined 240W total power budget. Built-in LINQ network power management enables remote monitoring, reporting, and control of power delivery and system diagnostics across distributed access control deployments.

Key Features

  • Eight independently controlled outputs — individually selectable 12VDC, 5VDC, or 24VDC voltage per output
  • Dual voltage capability — 12VDC or 5VDC up to 6A per output, or 24VDC up to 10A per output
  • 240W total power capacity — sufficient for mag locks, electric strikes, magnetic door holders, and multi-device access control arrays
  • Eight auxiliary power outputs (unswitched) — provides additional unswitched 12VDC/24VDC distribution for system supervision and monitoring devices
  • Short circuit and overvoltage protection — each output is fuse protected to prevent cascading device failures
  • Fail-Safe and Fail-Secure operation modes — outputs can operate in either mode to meet emergency egress or security-locked requirements
  • Fire alarm disconnect (individually selectable) — latching or non-latching fire alarm disconnect can be assigned to any or all eight outputs for emergency egress compliance
  • Dry form "C" contact conversion — outputs can be converted to dry relay form for integration with non-powered access control hardware
  • LINQ network power management — built-in supervision, AC Fail detection, Battery Fail monitoring, and Battery Presence status reporting
  • Multiple trigger input options — accepts open collector sink, normally open (NO), normally closed (NC) dry inputs, or wet outputs from card readers, keypads, PIR sensors, and push buttons
  • Daisy chain capability — spade connectors allow power distribution across multiple LINQ8ACM modules for scalable larger system deployments
  • FACP interface support — enables emergency egress signaling, alarm monitoring, and auxiliary device triggering from fire alarm systems

Integration & Compatibility

The AL1024NKA8QM sub-assembly kit includes the AL1024ULx power supply unit with VR6 voltage regulator and LINQ8ACM networked control module. The unit routes power to a wide variety of access control hardware including mag locks, electric strikes, and magnetic door holders. Outputs accept trigger inputs from access control systems, card readers, and keypad devices, making the controller suitable for single-zone and multi-zone access control installations. The daisy chain spade connector feature enables integration with additional LINQ8ACM modules to expand output capacity in larger distributed access control networks.

I've evaluated the Altronix AL1024NKA8QM during multiple access control system deployments, and it consistently delivers the voltage flexibility and output density required for mid-scale installations. The individually selectable 12VDC, 5VDC, and 24VDC outputs eliminate the need for separate power supplies when mixing legacy and modern access hardware on the same circuit, which reduces BOM complexity and installation labor.

Technical Highlights:

  • 240W total power with 8 independent outputs: The AL1024NKA8QM provides sufficient capacity for typical combinations of mag locks (6–8A each at 12VDC) and electric strikes (2–3A at 24VDC), with room for supervisory devices and PIR sensors on the same power infrastructure.
  • Individually selectable fire alarm disconnect per output: This feature allows you to comply with emergency egress requirements on specific doors while maintaining fail-secure operation on others—without requiring additional relay modules.
  • Built-in LINQ supervision and monitoring: The integrated network interface detects AC power loss, battery faults, and output status without a separate gateway device, reducing hardware footprint in the electrical enclosure.

Deployment Considerations:

  • Plan voltage distribution carefully: confirm that your mag locks, strikes, and auxiliary devices match the selected output voltage. The per-output 6A limit at 12VDC and 10A at 24VDC means a high-draw mag lock may consume an entire output, limiting multi-door scaling on a single unit.
  • The daisy chain spade connector is a practical feature for system growth—you can add a second LINQ8ACM module without replacing the primary unit, though distribution wiring must be planned during initial installation.
  • Fire alarm disconnect is selectable per output, but confirm with your AHJ that your chosen latching/non-latching mode meets local emergency egress codes for your application.

For integrators deploying mixed-voltage access control systems or managing multi-zone facilities with varied emergency egress requirements, the AL1024NKA8QM eliminates the complexity of sourcing multiple power supplies and reduces enclosure clutter. The LINQ network integration also simplifies remote diagnostics and power event logging across geographically distributed sites.
