Description

ATEN KE8980MR 4K Quad-Display KVM Over IP Receiver

Overview

The KE8980MR is a rack-mounted KVM over IP receiver designed for high-density remote workstation deployments where operators need simultaneous access to up to four independent 4K displays from a single seat. It supports video output up to 4 × 4096×2160 @ 60Hz — meaning each of the four connected displays can run full 4K resolution at full frame rate, a practical requirement for video wall control rooms, broadcast operations, and multi-application trading or monitoring environments. Dual RJ-45 ports at up to 2.5G per link provide the bandwidth headroom that multi-stream 4K demands; a single gigabit uplink would bottleneck at this resolution and display count. Operation-mode latency runs 16ms–48ms, which is within acceptable range for most KVM interactive use; multiview mode stays under 48ms.

Compatibility

The KE8980MR is the receiver unit in the ATEN KE8980 series KVM over IP system. It pairs with the corresponding ATEN KE8980 transmitter to complete the extender link. It is designed for use within the ATEN KVM over IP ecosystem and integrates with ATEN CCVSR or compatible management software for virtual machine access and multi-viewer switching. Confirm transmitter and management software compatibility against ATEN's published interoperability matrix before deploying — receiver-only purchases require a matched transmitter to function.

Installation Notes

The KE8980MR is rack-mountable; physical dimensions follow ATEN's L×W×H rack format convention. Both LAN ports should be connected to a network infrastructure capable of sustaining 2.5G throughput — a standard gigabit switch will limit multi-stream 4K performance. Operating humidity must stay within 10–90% RH non-condensing; avoid installations near HVAC discharge points or condensation-prone enclosures. Firmware v1.0.062 (released 2025-07-31) is the current baseline; verify firmware version on initial commissioning against the ATEN KVM accessories support page. Power and reset pushbuttons are physically present on the unit for local control.
