The VM8804 is a 4-port HDMI output expansion card designed for installation into ATEN's VM1600A modular matrix switcher. Each card adds four discrete HDMI outputs to the chassis, each capable of carrying video up to 1920x1200 resolution at cable runs up to 15 meters — practical for AV distribution in conference centers, control rooms, and broadcast environments where signal distance between the matrix frame and displays is short-haul but needs to be reliable. The VM8804 also delivers audio via 4 x captive screw connectors (5-pole) supporting both stereo balanced and unbalanced signal types, which matters when integrating with professional audio infrastructure that separates audio routing from HDMI.
Compatibility
The VM8804 is engineered for the ATEN VM1600A modular matrix switcher chassis. It occupies an output card slot in that frame and is not interchangeable with input card slots or other VM-series chassis. Before ordering, confirm your VM1600A has an available output slot — the chassis supports multiple output cards simultaneously, and card mix-and-match (HDMI, HDBaseT, etc.) is determined by slot availability. The VM8804 is not compatible with VM1600 (non-A revision) or other ATEN matrix frames without verified slot-compatibility confirmation from ATEN documentation. Pair with a compatible HDMI cable rated for the signal distance; standard 1080p/WUXGA passive cables work within the 15m envelope.
Installation Notes
Maximum cable run is 15 meters per port — exceeding this risks signal degradation at 1920x1200; plan display placement accordingly before pulling cable. The captive screw audio connectors require a small flathead for termination; stranded wire is recommended for the 5-pole balanced/unbalanced outputs to ensure a secure clamp. Operating humidity ceiling is 80% RH non-condensing — unsuitable for unconditioned outdoor enclosures or high-moisture mechanical rooms. Firmware v2.1.203 is the current release; update via the VM1600A chassis interface using the ATEN matrix management tools before commissioning. Cards ship in lots of 2, so budget and storage planning should account for pair-quantity procurement.
