Overview
The ACTi B71 is a 3MP outdoor dome engineered for 24/7 surveillance in mixed-light environments where you need usable detail in both bright skylight and shadowed zones. Extreme WDR paired with Superior Low Light capability handles the real-world scenario — direct sun through a doorway plus deep eaves in the same frame — without the trade-off of burned-out sky or crushed shadows that plague standard WDR. The B71 includes built-in analytics to flag edge events at the camera, reducing unnecessary backend processing on your NVR or VMS. PoE+ powered (802.3at minimum) with standard RJ-45 cabling; no proprietary connectors or specialized infrastructure required.
Compatibility
The B71 integrates with any ONVIF Profile S-compatible network video management system (Milestone, Genetec, Axis Camera Station, or equivalent). Verify your VMS or recorder explicitly supports 3MP H.265/H.264 dome streams before deployment. Mount on ceiling, soffit, or corner bracket using the provided dome gasket to prevent water ingress. Mounting surface must support 4 lb dead weight minimum. Network cable runs should not exceed 100 meters per Ethernet standard; outdoor-rated CAT6A is recommended for high-EMI industrial environments. Confirm your PoE+ switch has sufficient power budget — the B71 draws variable watts depending on scene brightness and analytics load; consult the manufacturer datasheet for peak draw specifications.
Installation Notes
Use outdoor-rated RJ-45 cabling with weatherproof connectors at termination points. Do not aim the B71 directly into high-intensity halogen or HID lighting — even with WDR enabled, direct glare will degrade edge contrast and analytics accuracy. Dome gasket must be properly seated during installation to prevent moisture ingress in rain or high-humidity environments. Verify PoE+ power delivery before finalizing mount; peak load will exceed standard 802.3af budget.
