Overview

The AP206 is a dual-channel, 2×60W Class D power amplifier with built-in DSP, designed for commercial AV distribution systems — paging, background music, and announcement zones in offices, classrooms, retail floors, and light industrial environments. Class D topology keeps heat output low (18.6W draw at AC110V for the full chassis) relative to the audio power on tap, which matters when you're racking this alongside networking and control gear. The AP206 supports both Lo-Z (4Ω) and Hi-Z (70V/100V) speaker topologies, so you can wire directly to a small local speaker cluster or drive a distributed 70V/100V ceiling-speaker loop without a separate transformer.

Compatibility

The AP206 integrates into ATEN's AV-over-IP and audio distribution ecosystem. It is designed to operate alongside ATEN audio matrix and zone management hardware. Control is via RS-232 (3-pin 3.5mm terminal block, 19200 baud, 8N1, no flow control), making it compatible with any control system or automation platform that outputs standard serial commands — Crestron, AMX, and similar room-control processors included. Software configuration and monitoring is handled through ATEN's Audio Wizard application, available for Windows 7/10 and macOS. Installation Notes

Input power is universal 100–240V~, 50/60Hz, 2A with PFC — no region-specific power supply swap needed. At AC110V the unit draws 18.6W (87 BTU); at AC220V, 18W (84 BTU): plan rack cooling accordingly. Speaker output protection covers output short-circuit, over/under voltage on the AMP output, high-frequency overload, and thermal conditions — the unit will protect itself without manual intervention. Storage temperature range is -20°C to 60°C; do not install in unventilated enclosures where ambient can spike above operating limits. Firmware is field-upgradeable (current: v1.1.102, released 2025-11-03) via the ATEN Audio Wizard software. Line output impedance is 600Ω — verify compatibility with any downstream mixing or recording interface. The detect threshold is -50dBu, setting the floor for signal-presence detection in auto-on/standby implementations. Certifications: FCC, CE, UKCA.
