Overview

The ATEN AP106 is a 60W mono power amplifier built for commercial distributed audio systems using 70V or 100V constant-voltage speaker lines. If you're wiring background music, paging, or public address across a facility with multiple ceiling speakers, the AP106 fits the standard Hi-Z architecture that lets you run dozens of taps from a single amplifier output without complex impedance matching. The AP106 includes an 80Hz high-pass filter (HPF, -12dB/Oct slope) to protect speakers from low-frequency content that most commercial ceiling drivers can't reproduce cleanly anyway — useful when feeding speech-only paging systems. An auto-detect function with a -50dBu threshold enables signal-presence sensing, which supports integration into systems that need to know when audio is active. RS-232 control (3-pin 3.5mm terminal block, 19200 baud, 8N1, no flow control) allows the AP106 to be managed from a building automation controller or AV control processor. The 2-band shelf EQ (±6dB) provides enough tonal adjustment to compensate for common room acoustics without requiring an external equalizer in typical installs. Thermal, output short-circuit, over/under voltage, and high-frequency overload protections are built in — a practical requirement for any amplifier running continuously in an equipment room.

Compatibility

The AP106 is designed for standard 70V and 100V constant-voltage distributed speaker systems — the architecture used in most commercial facilities, retail environments, hospitality, and institutional AV installations. It is compatible with any 70V or 100V rated ceiling speaker, pendant speaker, or wall speaker meeting the minimum load impedance requirements: 80Ω minimum on the 70V output, 160Ω minimum on the 100V output. RS-232 integration is compatible with any control processor or automation system supporting 19200 baud, 8-data-bit, 1-stop-bit, no-parity serial communication — standard on Crestron, AMX, and similar AV control platforms. Note: rack and surface mount kits are sold separately and are not included.

Installation Notes

The AP106 accepts universal mains input (100–240V~, 50/60Hz, 1A maximum), so it installs without a step-down transformer in both North American and international facilities.
