The CAB-TBT320M-40G-LINTES is a 2.0-meter Thunderbolt 3 active cable terminating in USB-C connectors on both ends, rated at 40Gbps full duplex. At that bandwidth, a direct-attach connection between a QNAP NAS and a Thunderbolt 3-equipped workstation saturates even NVMe-backed storage pools without a switch in the path — eliminating the 10GbE or 25GbE network as the bottleneck for video editing, raw media ingest, and high-throughput backup workflows. The 2.0m length suits rack-to-desktop or adjacent-enclosure runs where a shorter passive cable would physically restrict placement.
Designed for use with QNAP NAS devices equipped with Thunderbolt 3 ports, including the TVS-hx88 and TVS-hx77 series, the TBS-h574TX NASbook, and Thunderbolt expansion enclosures such as the TX-500P. On the host side, any Thunderbolt 3 or Thunderbolt 4 port — whether on a Mac, Windows workstation, or PCIe Thunderbolt card — is electrically compatible. Thunderbolt 4 hosts accept Thunderbolt 3 cables at full 40Gbps; USB 3.2 Gen 2 hosts will negotiate down to 10Gbps, so verify your host controller before assuming full throughput. For multi-device network infrastructure planning, note that Thunderbolt direct-attach is a point-to-point link — it does not replace a switch for multi-client access.
Route the cable to avoid sharp bends near the connector strain relief — Thunderbolt 3 active cables carry embedded electronics near the plug that are sensitive to mechanical stress. Seat both connectors fully until the USB-C latch clicks; a partially seated connection will drop to USB 2.0 speeds or fail enumeration entirely. If the host does not recognize the device at first connection, a full power cycle of both ends (not just a re-plug) is required to reinitialize the Thunderbolt controller handshake. For Thunderbolt NAS deployments in production environments, keep a spare cable on hand — Thunderbolt active cables are not field-repairable.
