QNAP CAB-TBT4-2M Thunderbolt 4 Active 40Gb/s 2m USB-C Cable
Overview
The CAB-TBT4-2M is a Thunderbolt 4 Active cable delivering a full 40Gb/s over a 2-meter USB Type-C connection. Active signaling is the key differentiator here — passive Thunderbolt cables top out at 0.8m before signal integrity degrades at full bandwidth; this cable maintains the complete 40Gb/s spec across the full 2m run. That extra reach matters in real rack and workstation deployments where your NAS enclosure and host workstation sit on separate shelves or across a desk. Use it to wire a QNAP NAS directly to a Thunderbolt 4-equipped workstation, bypassing Ethernet entirely for local transfer speeds that saturate even fast 10GbE links.
Compatibility
Designed for use with QNAP Thunderbolt-capable NAS enclosures and workstations or servers equipped with a Thunderbolt 4 or USB4 port. Thunderbolt 4 is backward compatible with Thunderbolt 3 hosts and devices — the cable will negotiate to the highest supported speed (40Gb/s on TBT4/USB4, 40Gb/s on TBT3). It is also compatible with USB4 Gen 3x2 (40Gb/s) hosts and USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10Gb/s) hosts at reduced speed. Not compatible with standard USB-C-only ports that lack Thunderbolt or USB4 controller support — verify the host port before deployment. QNAP NAS models in the TVS-hx88/hx77 and similar Thunderbolt-equipped families are the primary deployment target for this direct-attach cable.
Installation Notes
Active Thunderbolt cables are directional — the active circuitry is embedded at one end. If the connection fails to enumerate at full bandwidth, reverse the cable orientation. Bend radius should be kept generous near the connector housings; the active electronics inside the plug housing are sensitive to stress at the termination point. Ensure both host and device ports are fully Thunderbolt 4 certified for the full 40Gb/s throughput guarantee — USB4 ports advertised at 40Gb/s may vary in real-world bandwidth depending on controller implementation. Review your NAS cabling and storage expansion layout before ordering to confirm the 2m run reaches without strain.
