The CAB-TBT315M-40G is a 1.5-meter Thunderbolt 3 active cable with Type-C connectors delivering 40Gbps throughput — the bandwidth tier that matters when connecting QNAP NAS units to Thunderbolt 3 expansion enclosures or directly linking two NAS devices for high-speed data transfer. At 1.5M, it covers rack-adjacent and desktop-adjacent installs without the signal degradation that passive cables introduce beyond 0.5M. Active electronics inside the cable maintain signal integrity at full 40Gbps across the entire 1.5M run, so you are not sacrificing bandwidth for reach.
Designed for use with QNAP NAS and storage systems equipped with Thunderbolt 3 ports. Compatible product families include QNAP TVS-hx88X and TVS-hx77X series Thunderbolt 3 NAS units, as well as QNAP Thunderbolt 3 expansion enclosures such as the TR-004 series and TX-series direct-attach storage units. Also compatible with any standard Thunderbolt 3 host — workstations, Mac Pros, or PCs with certified Thunderbolt 3 controllers — where full 40Gbps operation is required. The Type-C connector is physically compatible with USB-C ports, but Thunderbolt 3 signaling and 40Gbps speeds require a Thunderbolt 3 certified host and device on both ends; USB-C-only ports will negotiate at lower USB speeds.
Plug orientation is reversible — the Type-C connector inserts either way. Keep bend radius reasonable near the connectors; active cables contain electronics near the plug head that can be damaged by sharp kinking. Verify Thunderbolt firmware is current on both connected devices before commissioning — outdated firmware is the most common cause of failed Thunderbolt device enumeration. This cable does not carry power delivery adequate for charging high-wattage devices; use a dedicated power supply for any connected expansion unit requiring external power.
