Description

Transition Networks SBFTF1039-105-BR 10/100BASE-TX to 100BASE-FX Multimode LC Media Converter

Overview

The SBFTF1039-105-BR is a standalone media converter from Transition Networks that bridges a 10/100BASE-TX copper segment to a 100BASE-FX multimode fiber link via an LC connector, with a -BR external power supply included. The 2 km multimode reach covers intra-building and campus runs where copper distance limits are the constraint — typical in IP camera backhaul, access control head-end connections, and network closet-to-IDF fiber extensions. Rather than replacing a switch, this unit inserts directly into an existing copper/fiber handoff, preserving the rest of your infrastructure. If your fiber plant is already LC-terminated multimode and you're extending a 100 Mbps Fast Ethernet segment, the SBFTF1039-105-BR is a direct fit — no re-termination, no media re-work required.

Compatibility

Designed for Fast Ethernet (100 Mbps) environments. Connects any 10/100BASE-TX copper device — IP cameras, NVR LAN ports, PoE switch uplinks, access control panels — to a 100BASE-FX multimode fiber segment terminated with LC connectors. The 2 km maximum reach applies to standard 62.5/125 µm or 50/125 µm multimode fiber. This unit does not support Gigabit or single-mode fiber; for longer runs or higher throughput, verify the fiber type and select a unit rated for the appropriate distance and wavelength. The included -BR power supply is a regional supply variant — confirm regional compatibility before deployment in non-standard voltage environments.

Installation Notes

The -BR suffix designates the bundled power supply configuration; the converter requires the external supply for operation — it is not PoE-powered. LC connectors must be clean and properly seated; contaminated LC ferrules are the single most common cause of link failure on multimode runs at this distance. Plan fiber routing to avoid bend radii tighter than the cable manufacturer's minimum to maintain signal integrity across the full 2 km span.
