The Comnet CNFE2MCPOEM is a 10/100 Mbps media converter that bridges copper Ethernet to single-mode or multimode fiber via user-selectable SFP modules. It functions as IEEE 802.3at Power Sourcing Equipment (PSE), delivering up to 30W @ 48VDC on the electrical port — eliminating the need for a separate midspan injector in many surveillance deployments. Auto-negotiation on the copper side means no manual speed configuration; the optical side locks to 100 Mbps full-duplex. This is the right choice when you need to extend Ethernet over distance (fiber reaches up to 80 km depending on SFP selection) while simultaneously powering a remote IP camera or edge device without additional power infrastructure.
Compatibility
The CNFE2MCPOEM works with any standard RJ45-fed IP camera, NVR, or PoE-enabled device on the electrical side. On the optical side, it accepts any industry-standard SFP module — you select the transceiver based on fiber type (single-mode 9µm, multimode 50µm or 62.5µm), distance, and connector preference (LC, SC, ST). This modular design means a single converter can support different fiber plant investments across your surveillance network without hardware changes. Compatible with PoE switches that feed the converter's power input (12VDC @ 3A or 24VDC @ 1.5A), or standalone DC supplies.
Installation Notes
The converter draws 12VDC at 3A or 24VDC at 1.5A — verify your power supply matches one of these specifications. Electrical and optical ports feature automatic MDI/MDI-X crossover on the copper side, so straight-through cabling works without pinout concerns. Voltage transient protection is built into all power and signal lines, critical in outdoor or industrial fiber runs where lightning or switching transients are common. Operating temperature range of -40°C to +75°C and humidity tolerance to 95% RH (with condensation) means this unit handles NEMA TS-1/TS-2 and Caltrans-compliant roadside or utilities environments.
