Description

StarTech DKT31CHVL USB-C Multiport Adapter

Overview

The StarTech DKT31CHVL is a compact USB-C multiport adapter designed to expand connectivity for laptops and workstations. It addresses the common issue of limited ports on modern ultrabooks by providing essential video output, high-speed data transfer, and wired networking. This adapter is ideal for mobile professionals and users who need to connect to external displays, peripherals, and wired networks simultaneously, especially in environments where reliable wired Ethernet is preferred over Wi-Fi. The DKT31CHVL model offers a versatile set of ports, including HDMI and VGA for video, USB-A and USB-C for peripherals, and RJ45 for networking, all powered directly from the host device's USB-C port.

Compatibility

This adapter is compatible with any USB-C enabled laptop or workstation that supports DisplayPort Alternate Mode (DP Alt Mode) and USB Power Delivery (PD). It functions with operating systems such as Windows 10 and later, macOS 10.12 and later, and ChromeOS. For optimal performance, ensure your host device's USB-C port supports 10Gbps data transfer and video output. It is designed to work with a wide range of laptops from manufacturers like Dell, HP, Lenovo, Apple MacBook, and others that feature a Thunderbolt 3 or USB-C port capable of video output.

Installation Notes

The adapter features an attached 9.8-inch (25 cm) USB-C cable for direct connection to your host device. It is bus-powered, meaning it draws power directly from the USB-C port and does not require an external power adapter. For dual display configurations (HDMI and VGA simultaneously), the maximum resolution is limited to 1080p (1920x1080 @ 30Hz) on both outputs. When using only the HDMI port, it supports up to 4K (3840x2160 @ 30Hz). The integrated Ethernet port supports speeds up to 1000 Mbps, with a maximum throughput of 2 Gbps due to its internal architecture. Operating temperature range is 0°C to 60°C (32°F to 140°F).
