How the sizing works
Storage: per-camera H.265 bitrate (2MP ≈ 2 Mbps, 4MP ≈ 4, 5MP ≈ 5, 8MP ≈ 8) × retention days, with motion-based recording estimated at half of continuous and 10% filesystem overhead. Power: 10W average per camera with 25% headroom against the switch’s total PoE budget. Channels: the next standard recorder size above your camera count, so you have room to grow. These are planning estimates — scene activity, frame rate, and audio change real-world numbers, which is why every design gets a free human review before you buy.
