Overview
The PMG2X-A is a hard-wired, panel-mount surge suppressor rated for 480/277V three-phase systems with a 80kA maximum surge current rating. Designed for permanent installation at the panel level, it protects downstream electrical equipment — including security infrastructure, access control panels, and network hardware — from transient voltage spikes that would otherwise cause equipment damage or unplanned downtime. The built-in surge counter gives facilities teams a record of suppression events, which is useful for maintenance scheduling and documenting cumulative stress on the installation. This is a non-modular unit: the entire device is replaced if it reaches end-of-life, with no field-swappable MOV modules. The 5-wire hard-wire connection (3PH + N + G) means it integrates directly into the distribution panel without plug-in connectors, keeping it appropriate for fixed commercial and light industrial electrical environments.
Compatibility
The PMG2X-A is designed for 480/277V three-phase electrical distribution panels — the standard voltage configuration in US commercial buildings, warehouses, and light industrial facilities. It is suited for protecting branch circuits feeding PoE network switches, NVRs, UPS units, and other sensitive electronics connected downstream of a 480V service entrance. Verify that the host panel accepts hard-wire 5-wire terminations and that available breaker/knockouts accommodate the unit's 4.8-inch footprint. This unit is not compatible with single-phase 120/240V residential or light commercial panels — those require a different SurgeArrest model rated for single-phase service.
Installation Notes
Installation requires a licensed electrician: the PMG2X-A connects via hard-wire 5-wire termination directly to the panel bus (3-phase + neutral + ground). The unit dimensions are 4.8 inches — confirm enclosure clearance before ordering. At 6.50 lb, the unit is panel-bracket mounted; verify the mounting surface and bracket load capacity prior to installation.
