Overview
The STI STI-9620 is a heavy-duty wire cage designed to protect PIR motion detectors from accidental and intentional damage in high-traffic or vandalism-prone environments. Built from gauge 9 steel wire with corrosion-resistant polyester coating, it mounts directly over motion detector heads to shield the lens and sensor elements while maintaining the detector's effective coverage range. The cage addresses a common integration challenge: motion detectors mounted in accessible areas (hallways, loading docks, retail floors) frequently suffer impact damage or deliberate tampering, causing false alarms, service calls, and downtime. This protective frame absorbs impact energy and prevents direct contact with the detector optics.
Compatibility
The STI-9620 fits standard PIR motion detectors with corner-mount configurations. STI manufactures five cage sizes across their Stopper® line (including models STI-9618, STI-9619, STI-9621, STI-9622) to accommodate nearly all commercially available PIR detectors. Verify your detector's mounting style (corner-mount vs. surface-mount) and physical dimensions against STI's sizing chart before ordering — cage coverage varies by model, and a mismatched size defeats protection effectiveness. The protective wire does not interfere with detector range or sensitivity when installed correctly.
Installation Notes
The STI-9620 is designed for quick-release mounting — no tools required for daily removal or repositioning. Install the cage before the detector during new construction, or retrofit it to existing detectors by sliding it over the sensor head and securing it to the mounting bracket. No wiring modifications or power adjustments are necessary. Ensure the cage sits flush against the mounting surface to prevent gaps that could allow a hand or object to bypass the protection. The polyester coating handles indoor humidity and light outdoor exposure; in high-salt or spray environments, inspect coating annually for corrosion breakthrough.
