STI STI-6521-C Bopper Stopper Protective Cover
Overview
The STI-6521-C is a molded polycarbonate hinged protective cover designed to shield access control readers, keypads, biometric devices, electrical outlets, and push buttons from vandalism and accidental damage. This accessory addresses a practical deployment constraint in high-traffic or outdoor environments: unprotected readers degrade rapidly from impact, ice buildup, and weather exposure. The Bopper Stopper maintains the protected device in an accessible state while imposing a physical barrier that discourages tampering and extends service life. The cover operates via a stainless steel torsion spring that holds it closed and allows one-handed operation. Installation is straightforward—no special tools or expertise required—making it a retrofit fit for existing access control deployments. The product is ADA-compliant and backed by a three-year manufacturer guarantee against polycarbonate breakage under normal use.
Compatibility
The STI-6521-C is sized for small-footprint devices including biometric fingerprint readers, compact keypads, electrical outlets, volume or lighting controls, and smaller-sized pull stations. It does not require electrical integration—this is a purely mechanical protective enclosure. The cover works with any reader or control device whose face dimension fits within the opening; STI manufactures multiple cover sizes (referenced in the datasheet as STI-6518, STI-6529, and related variants) to accommodate different device widths and depths. Confirm your reader's physical dimensions against the STI cover sizing chart before ordering. The cover is compatible with wired access control systems of any architecture (TCP/IP, RS-232, Wiegand, or proprietary protocols) because it does not interfere with electrical signaling.
Installation Notes
The cover arrives complete with mounting screws and a gasket seal. Installation involves fastening the hinge base to a wall, door frame, or equipment panel using the supplied hardware, then positioning the cover over the target device and securing the closing mechanism. No wiring, configuration, or integration labor is required. Operating temperature range is −40°F to 250°F (−40°C to 121°C), permitting use in outdoor, freezer, or high-heat environments. The polycarbonate gasket is recommended for replacement after five years of continuous exposure to weather or high-humidity conditions; gasket kits are available separately from STI.
