Overview
The Viking Electronics E-20B is a telephone line powered surface mount entry phone built for analog door, gate, and garage access applications in residential and light commercial installations. Drawing power directly from the telephone line (18 VDC / 20mA minimum), the E-20B eliminates the need for a separate power supply — a practical advantage when running cable to a remote door post or perimeter gate where conduit is already in place for a POTS line. The unit ships in UV-stable light gray plastic, surface mount only — no in-wall cutout required, which simplifies retrofit deployments on hollow metal doors and masonry.
Compatibility
The E-20B is designed for use with Viking Electronics analog entry phone systems and pairs directly with Viking's E-Series entry phone line, including the E-10A in two-station door intercom configurations. It operates on standard analog telephone lines and is compatible with any telephone system or KSU that supplies the required 25V AC RMS ring voltage minimum and supports a 0.8A REN load. It is not a VoIP device — for SIP/VoIP door entry, Viking's E-10-IP, E-20-IP, E-30-IP, and E-32-IP models share the same form factor with a dedicated IP stack. The E-20B-EWP variant shares identical dimensions and telephone line power requirements but adds 100% condensing humidity tolerance for fully exposed outdoor installs where the standard model's 5–95% non-condensing rating is insufficient.
Installation Notes
Surface mount only — no recessed housing or back box required. Dimensions are 5.5″ x 4.5″ x 1.7″, fitting standard single-gang surface conduit bodies for wire management. Operating temperature range of -30°F to 150°F covers unheated outdoor enclosures in northern climates and direct-sun southern exposures without a housing heater. CPC disconnect requires a minimum 300ms pulse — verify your telephone system's CPC timing if integrating with auto-attendant or door relay logic. Speaker output is approximately 70dB at 1 meter; adequate for quiet lobbies and vestibules, but not for high-ambient-noise loading docks or mechanical rooms where a horn speaker supplement should be considered.
