Overview

The Middle Atlantic 5-21 is a 21RU open-frame rack built for AV equipment rooms, security head-end closets, and network infrastructure deployments where vertical space is limited but load demands are not. At 40.5 in tall with a 20 in usable depth and a 400 lb UL-listed load rating, this frame handles the weight of fully populated NVR, switching, and patch panel builds without the bulk of a fully enclosed cabinet. The knockdown construction means it ships flat and assembles on-site — useful when elevator access or tight doorways would block a pre-assembled rack. This is a frame-only product; doors, side panels, and cable management are sold separately.

Compatibility

The 5-21 uses standard 10-32 threaded rack rails at 19 in panel width, making it compatible with any 19-inch rack-mount equipment — including network video recorders, PoE managed switches, patch panels, KVM units, and UPS systems commonly deployed in physical security and AV head-end rooms. The Slim 5 Series is designed to accept Middle Atlantic's own accessories such as vertical cable managers, horizontal lacing panels, and caster kits, allowing the frame to be built out incrementally. The 21RU usable height (36.75 in) accommodates a fully loaded security head-end: a 16-channel NVR, managed PoE switch, patch panel, and 1U power strip fit with room to spare. The gangable design supports side-by-side multi-frame configurations for larger installations.

Installation Notes

The knockdown (KD) rack type requires on-site assembly — confirm assembly tools are on hand before scheduling the install. The frame is 19.13 in wide overall with a 19 in panel width; verify rack room or enclosure cutout dimensions before ordering. TAA-compliant and manufactured in the USA, qualifying for federal and government procurement. Shipping weight is 40.98 lbs; plan accordingly for multi-unit deliveries to upper-floor locations without freight elevator access.
