Viking Electronics RC-2A Remote Touch Tone Relay Controller
Overview
The RC-2A is a touch-tone-activated remote relay controller from the Viking Electronics product line that lets you operate a single normally open or normally closed relay contact from any standard DTMF telephone — no specialized equipment, no app, no network. The RC-2A accepts a DTMF command after the line answers, then toggles a 5A relay rated at 30VDC or 250VAC, making it a practical fit for remotely controlling door strikes, gate operators, lighting circuits, or HVAC contactors in commercial and light-industrial installs. The unit supports four selectable ring delays (1, 2, 6, or 15 rings) so it won't answer before an on-site attendant has a chance to pick up. Power comes from the included 120VAC/12VDC UL-listed adapter, or directly from any 12–24V AC or DC source already present in the panel — useful when integrating into an existing access control or intercom backplane.
Compatibility
The RC-2A is designed to work with any standard POTS (plain old telephone service) line delivering DTMF tones. It pairs naturally with Viking intercom and telephone entry products — including the Viking E-series and W-series telephone entry systems — wherever a relay-controlled output is needed at a remote location. The dry contact output (5A @ 30VDC / 5A @ 250VAC) is compatible with most commercial door strike controllers, magnetic locks, gate control boards, and relay-input modules from manufacturers such as HID, Securitron, and similar access hardware. It is not designed for VoIP-only lines that do not pass in-band DTMF reliably; confirm DTMF pass-through with your carrier before deploying on a digital or hosted PBX trunk.
Installation Notes
The RC-2A measures 5.25″ × 3.5″ × 1.75″ and mounts inside an enclosure or on a surface. Power draw is 500mA at 12VDC when using the included adapter, or 200mA when powering directly from a 12–24V AC/DC source — relevant if you're tapping a shared power supply. Operating range spans -40°F to 160°F with 5–95% non-condensing humidity, so the unit tolerates unheated utility rooms and outdoor enclosures in most climates without supplemental thermal management. Wire the relay output in compliance with local electrical code; the 5A contact rating handles most low-voltage door hardware directly but is not rated for line-voltage motor loads without an interposing relay.
