Overview
The APC AP8970 is a 2nd Generation Switched Rack Power Distribution Unit (PDU) designed for enterprise data centers and network closets. It provides remote power control for individual outlets, allowing you to cycle power to specific devices, preventing unauthorized usage, and managing power consumption. This ZeroU, 182.9 cm tall unit mounts vertically in standard 19-inch racks, consuming no horizontal rack space. It's ideal for environments where granular power control and remote management are critical for uptime, such as server racks, network switches, and other IT infrastructure components. The AP8970 model features a NEMA L14-30P input connector and provides a mix of outlet types to accommodate various equipment power cords.
Compatibility
This PDU is designed for integration into standard 19-inch server racks. The NEMA L14-30P input connector is compatible with 30A, 120/208V circuits commonly found in data center power infrastructure. The mixed outlet configuration (16x 5-20R, 7x C13, 1x C19) supports a wide range of IT equipment, including servers, network switches, KVMs, and other rack-mounted devices. It is designed to work with APC's EcoStruxure IT management platform for enhanced monitoring and control.
Installation Notes
The unit requires a 120/208V circuit with a NEMA L14-30P receptacle, capable of supplying at least 24A continuous load. The PDU itself is protected by three circuit breakers: two 20A single-pole breakers for the 5-20R outlets and one 20A double-pole breaker for the C13 and C19 outlets. Ensure the operating environment remains within the specified temperature (-5 to 60 °C) and humidity (5–95% RH, non-condensing) ranges. The 3-meter power cord provides flexibility in rack placement.
