The QXG-5G2T-111C is a dual-port, 4-speed 5 GbE network expansion card built for QNAP NAS appliances and compatible PCIe servers. It raises throughput to 5 Gbps per port over copper — the practical fix when a 1 GbE bottleneck is limiting backup windows, NAS replication, or high-throughput surveillance stream aggregation, and you want to avoid replacing existing Cat5e or Cat6 infrastructure. The Intel I225-series controller (model 111C suffix) supports 100M / 1G / 2.5G / 5G auto-negotiation, so it drops into mixed-speed switch environments without forcing a full fabric upgrade. At roughly half the cost of a 10GbE solution, the QXG-5G2T-111C is the practical entry point for multi-gig network upgrades on NAS-centric workloads.
Designed for QNAP NAS models with a compatible PCIe expansion slot — including the TVS-h series, TVS-x73, TVS-x75, TS-x77, TS-x73A, and TS-x72XT families, as well as QNAP expansion enclosures with PCIe pass-through. Also installs in standard PCIe x4 or x8 slots on Windows and Linux servers where the Intel I225 driver is supported. Verify slot availability and NAS compatibility via the QNAP NAS lineup compatibility list before ordering — slot count and lane width vary by chassis generation. Pairs naturally with a multi-gig PoE switch on the upstream side to realize the full 5G link speed end-to-end.
Standard PCIe card installation — power down the NAS, seat the card into the appropriate PCIe slot, and reinstall the chassis panel. QNAP NAS units running QTS or QuTS hero will detect the card and load the driver automatically after reboot; no manual driver installation is required on supported firmware versions. For PC or server installs on Windows or Linux, the Intel I225 driver is available from Intel's download center. Use Cat5e or better cabling to reach 5 Gbps link speed — Cat5 is rated to 1G only and will limit the connection.
