ATEN VC980 Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter

Overview

The ATEN VC980 is a passive adapter that converts a Mini DisplayPort Male output to an HDMI Type A Female input, supporting resolutions up to 1920x1200. It solves a common AV integration problem: connecting a Mini DisplayPort source — such as a workstation, laptop docking station, or compact PC — directly to an HDMI display, monitor, or capture device without an active converter or external power. The VC980 keeps the signal path simple and eliminates the need for a separate adapter box in rack or desktop installs where space is constrained.

Compatibility

The VC980 works with any Mini DisplayPort source capable of outputting a DP-to-HDMI compatible signal. Compatible source equipment typically includes Intel and AMD integrated graphics platforms, Apple Mac Mini (pre-2019), and workstation graphics cards with Mini DisplayPort outputs. On the sink side, it connects to any standard HDMI Type A display or receiver operating at resolutions up to 1920x1200 (WUXGA) or 1920x1080 (1080p). Note that active DisplayPort Alt-Mode or Thunderbolt 3/4 sources using USB-C require a separate adapter — the VC980 is Mini DisplayPort only, not USB-C.

Installation Notes

The VC980 is a passive adapter: no drivers, no external power, and no configuration required. Plug the Mini DisplayPort Male connector (white) into the source and connect your HDMI cable to the Type A Female port (black). Operating humidity is rated at 0–80% RH non-condensing, so avoid installations in unconditioned spaces with condensation risk. The carton ships in lots of 40 units — plan procurement quantities accordingly for larger deployments or spare-stock programs.
