Description

Lenovo 7C57A03999 ThinkSystem SR850/SR860 2.5-Inch AnyBay 8-Bay Backplane Kit

Overview

The Lenovo 7C57A03999 is a 2.5-inch AnyBay 8-bay backplane kit designed to expand or restore drive connectivity in ThinkSystem SR850 and SR860 rack servers. AnyBay backplanes support both NVMe and SAS/SATA drives on the same physical bay row — so you can mix drive technologies without swapping backplanes as storage strategy evolves. This is a factory-new replacement or configuration-build component, not a standalone storage device. Weighing 2.0 lb, it is a direct-fit internal assembly for the supported server chassis.

Compatibility

The 7C57A03999 is designed specifically for the Lenovo ThinkSystem SR850 and SR860 enterprise rack servers. These are dual-socket, 2U (SR850) and 4U (SR860) platforms built for high-density compute and storage workloads. The AnyBay backplane architecture on these platforms allows each bay to address either a U.2 NVMe drive or a SAS/SATA drive, controlled by the system's drive configuration and cabling. Before ordering, confirm your server's current backplane layout against the Lenovo SR850/SR860 server components configuration guide — backplane slot position and cable routing vary by chassis revision and existing drive cage population. This kit is not compatible with SR650, SR630, or other ThinkSystem models outside the SR850/SR860 family.

Installation Notes

Installation requires removing the server from the rack and powering down completely. The backplane connects via dedicated SAS/NVMe signal cables and a power connector routed from the system board or HBA — verify cable kit compatibility separately, as signal cables are not included in this backplane kit. Proper ESD precautions are mandatory when handling the backplane assembly. Consult the official Lenovo SR850/SR860 hardware maintenance manual for torque specs on retention screws and the correct cable routing path for your chassis revision before committing the assembly.
