Description

Lenovo 4XH7B03851 SR650 V4 12x3.5in SAS/SATA Backplane Option Kit

Overview

The Lenovo 4XH7B03851 is a 12-bay 3.5-inch SAS/SATA backplane option kit for the ThinkSystem SR650 V4 rack server. If you're expanding or replacing drive bay infrastructure on an SR650 V4 — whether configuring a fresh chassis for high-capacity spinning-disk storage or restoring a failed backplane in an existing deployment — this kit provides the correct factory-matched interface hardware. Dual interface support (SAS and SATA) gives you flexibility to run enterprise SAS drives alongside cost-effective SATA HDDs in the same backplane without adapters.

Compatibility

Designed specifically for the Lenovo ThinkSystem SR650 V4. This backplane option kit is not interchangeable with the SR650 V3, SR650 (Gen 1/2), or other SR-series platforms — backplane connectors, bay pitch, and signal routing differ across generations. Verify your chassis part number confirms V4 before ordering. The 12x3.5-inch bay count targets configurations prioritizing high raw capacity — typically 12TB–20TB SATA or 2.4TB–2.5TB SAS drives per slot — making this the right fit for network video recorders and bulk-storage server builds where drive count matters more than density. If your SR650 V4 is configured for 2.5-inch SFF drives, this is the wrong backplane — source the 2.5-inch variant instead.

Installation Notes

At 10 lb, the backplane assembly is heavier than typical accessory components — plan for two-person handling during chassis installation to avoid connector damage. Manufactured in Mexico. UNSPSC commodity code 43211600 classifies this as server storage hardware. Follow Lenovo's SR650 V4 hardware maintenance guide for backplane seating, SAS/SATA cable routing, and torque specifications — improper seating of the backplane connector is the most common installation error on large-form-factor LFF configurations.
