The Lenovo 4X97A82932 is the OEM NVMe cable kit designed for the SR650 V3 server's 2.5-inch front backplane (BP1) configuration. If you're building out or expanding NVMe drive capacity on an SR650 V3 and find the front backplane unpopulated or missing its signal cabling, this kit closes that gap — restoring the direct NVMe signal path between the front BP1 backplane and the system board or riser. Without the correct cabling, installed NVMe drives will not be recognized regardless of firmware configuration.
Designed specifically for the Lenovo ThinkSystem SR650 V3 with a 2.5-inch front drive configuration using the BP1 (Backplane 1) NVMe assembly. This kit is not interchangeable with SR650 V2 or other ThinkSystem models — Lenovo's backplane and cabling architecture changed between generations, and cross-generation substitution will result in connector mismatch. Verify your SR650 V3 chassis configuration and backplane part number before ordering. The NVMe interface confirmed for this kit is consistent with PCIe-attached NVMe (not SAS/SATA); drives attached via SAS expander backplanes require a separate cable set.
Cable routing in the SR650 V3 front bay area is tight — consult the Lenovo ThinkSystem SR650 V3 Maintenance Manual for the specific BP1 cable routing guides and retention clips before attempting installation. Incorrect routing can impede airflow across the front drive bay and cause thermal events during sustained I/O. No specialty tooling is required, but a Phillips-head screwdriver and cable management lacing or ties are recommended for a clean installation. Seat all connectors fully before powering on — NVMe link failures at boot are commonly traced to partially engaged cable connectors on the backplane side.
