The Lenovo 4C57A15007 is a rear drive RAID kit designed for the ThinkSystem SR860 V2 platform, enabling SATA storage expansion at the back of the chassis. The 7mm form factor targets space-constrained rear bay configurations where standard 15mm drives won't fit — a relevant constraint in dense 4-socket server deployments where rear bays are frequently occupied by boot or caching drives. If you're adding rear-accessible SATA storage to an SR860 V2 without disrupting front-bay capacity, this kit provides the physical mounting and interface infrastructure to do it cleanly.
The 4C57A15007 is designed specifically for the Lenovo ThinkSystem SR860 V2 server platform. It is not a universal RAID kit — do not attempt to fit it in SR860 (Gen 1), SR950, or other ThinkSystem 4-socket platforms without confirming chassis revision compatibility with Lenovo's configuration guide. The SATA interface limits drive pairing to SATA SSDs or HDDs in the 7mm height class; SAS drives are not compatible with this kit. Verify your SR860 V2's backplane firmware and RAID adapter support for rear-bay SATA before ordering — some RAID controller SKUs require a separate cable or expander to address rear bays in this server accessory configuration.
Installation is chassis-rear access only — the server must be partially withdrawn from the rack to reach the rear bay zone. Confirm that the network and storage cabling routed to the rear of the chassis has sufficient slack before seating the kit. The 7mm drive height is a hard constraint: installing a standard 9.5mm or 15mm drive into this carrier will prevent proper seating and can damage the backplane connector. Match drive height precisely before assembly.
