The HPE P48826-B21 is a tertiary riser cage kit designed for the HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen11 server platform. It expands the riser slot capacity in 2LFF (Large Form Factor) chassis configurations where the base riser layout does not provide sufficient PCIe expansion for dense I/O deployments — think multi-port network adapters, storage HBAs, or GPU accelerators stacked into a single 2U chassis. At 4.13 lb, this is a structural cage assembly, not a passive bracket; it physically houses the tertiary riser card position and integrates into the DL380 Gen11 backplane architecture. If your rack server build requires more than two active riser zones, P48826-B21 is the enabling component.
This kit is specified for the HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen11 in the 2LFF drive bay configuration. It is not interchangeable with DL380 Gen10 or Gen10 Plus riser assemblies — HPE Gen11 uses a revised chassis layout and riser connector scheme. Confirm your chassis part number against HPE's QuickSpecs for the DL380 Gen11 before ordering; the 2LFF and 8LFF variants use different riser cage geometries and this kit targets the 2LFF build specifically. It is not compatible with DL360, DL385, or other ProLiant families.
Installation requires partial disassembly of the DL380 Gen11 chassis interior. Follow HPE's Maintenance and Service Guide for the DL380 Gen11 — tertiary riser cage seating is torque-sensitive at the chassis standoff points and misalignment can prevent proper PCIe card engagement. Power down and discharge the system before handling. No external tools beyond a T-15 Torx driver are typically required for this assembly class, but verify against the HPE service guide for your specific chassis revision.
