The P48810-B21 is a small-form-factor (2SFF) U.3 drive cage kit designed for the HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen11 server. It provides the physical bay infrastructure needed to add or restore primary and secondary U.3 drive positions — the prerequisite step before populating NVMe or SAS/SATA U.3 drives in a DL380 G11 chassis that shipped without this cage configuration. If your DL380 Gen11 arrived with fewer populated bays than your storage workload requires, this kit is the correct mechanical starting point. Weighing 1.34 lb, the P48810-B21 installs into the front bay area of the server to enable the 2SFF U.3 drive positions in both primary and secondary cage slots.
This cage kit is designed specifically for the HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen11 (G11) platform. It is not interchangeable with DL380 Gen10, Gen10 Plus, or other ProLiant family members — HPE cage kits are generation-specific and chassis-specific due to backplane connector alignment and bay geometry differences. Verify your server's existing cage configuration against HPE's DL380 Gen11 storage configuration guide before ordering: some DL380 Gen11 base configurations ship with a different front bay arrangement that may require a different cage option. U.3 drive compatibility requires a U.3-capable backplane already present in the chassis — this cage kit provides the bay structure but does not include the backplane itself.
Installation is a tool-assisted hot-plug bay procedure within the DL380 Gen11 chassis. Ensure the server is powered down or follow HPE's hot-plug storage guidelines where applicable. The cage must seat fully against the chassis alignment guides before the backplane connection is made — partial seating will prevent drive recognition. Country of origin varies by unit (BR, CN, CZ, JP, MX, US) per HPE's global manufacturing network; this does not affect compatibility or specification.
