Overview

The Honeywell 5828V is a bidirectional wireless keypad designed to arm/disarm and control security system operations from remote locations without running hardwire back to the panel. Unlike passive keypads, the 5828V announces system status and alarm conditions via voice — fire alarms, burglary alarms, and location details (e.g., "Kitchen window") are spoken rather than displayed text-only. Deploy this where you need wireless status feedback in a home office, garage, or second floor without rewiring.

The 5828V includes 12 operational keys plus four backlit Special Function keys (A, B, C, D) programmable by your installer for panic alarms or custom system operations. Panic is triggered by key-pair combinations (e.g., [1]&[✱] for key A) or by holding a programmed Special Function key for 3 seconds. Battery-powered units activate by pressing any numbered key; AC-powered units provide continuous status annunciation if AC fails.

Compatibility

The 5828V integrates with Honeywell security systems that support bidirectional wireless keypads — specifically Honeywell VISTA panels and legacy ADEMCO systems configured for 5828/5828V protocol. Confirm your panel firmware and wireless receiver module support the 5828V before purchase. This is a replacement or expansion keypad, not a standalone device; it requires an active Honeywell security system with wireless receiver hardware already installed.

Installation Notes

Battery-powered operation uses a battery compartment (type and capacity depend on installer configuration). The keypad must be placed within radio range of the system's wireless receiver — typical indoor range is 100 feet; range reduces through walls and metal. If AC-powered, use only the approved AC adapter supplied by your installer. Backlit keys require either AC power or battery draw during active use.
