Overview

The HID 5365EGL04 is a 125kHz proximity card reader in a compact mini form factor, shipped with a 9-foot cable and designed for space-constrained access control deployments. This reader handles standard HID and MIFARE proximity credentials, outputting via Wiegand protocol — the de facto standard for integration with commercial access control panels and gateways. At 5VDC, it operates on low-voltage power budgets typical of access control systems, making it suitable for retrofit installations where power distribution is already in place. The weatherproof enclosure permits indoor or outdoor mounting, and the cable length eliminates the need for field extensions on many cabinet or surface-mount scenarios.

Compatibility

The 5365EGL04 integrates with any Wiegand-capable access control panel — including legacy HID readers installations, modern multi-protocol gateways, and standalone controllers that support Wiegand input. It reads HID 125kHz proximity cards and keyfobs, as well as MIFARE credentials where the host system supports dual-technology readers. RS-232 communication is available as an alternative to Wiegand on select configurations, allowing serial connection to controllers or data collection systems. The reader's multicolor LED and beeper provide local feedback; LED and audio control can be managed by the reader internally or by the host panel.

Installation Notes

Mount the reader indoors or outdoors using the weatherproof enclosure; optional glass mounting kit is available for transparent-surface installations. The 9-foot cable provides reach to most panel locations without splicing. Confirm your access control panel provides 5VDC output and Wiegand input (or RS-232) before ordering. Tamper switch functionality requires the host panel to monitor the tamper output. For applications requiring longer read range, HID's ProxPro II reader offers approximately 1 additional inch of detection distance and lower operating voltage.
