Overview

The GRI 505-W is a 1-inch super miniature brad surface mount contact designed for residential and light commercial access control applications where space constraints demand a compact switching solution. This contact pair (switch and magnet) installs directly to door frames, window tracks, or structural edges without requiring recessed cavities—solving the installation problem when your mounting surface won't tolerate traditional flush-mount contacts or when aesthetic concealment is critical. The 12" AWG #26 leads provide enough slack for flexible routing inside existing door frames or trim without requiring solder joints at the contact point itself.

Compatibility

The 505-W integrates into GRI's 505 Series magnetic contact ecosystems and works with any standard access control panel, door alarm system, or generic magnetic switch loop that accepts dry-contact closure signals. The component is contact-agnostic—it pairs with any panel capable of monitoring a normally-closed (or normally-open, if you spec the 506 variant) magnetic reed switch circuit. GRI supplies the switch and magnet separately, so you can source replacements or mix-and-match gap versions (standard 1/2" gap or 3/4" wide gap) to match your door/frame tolerance.

Installation Notes

Mount the switch body and magnet using the included mounting brads or die-cut double-sided tape—no drilling required with tape installation. Align the brad or magnet holes in switch and magnet to oppose each other for proper contact engagement. The 12" leads terminate in unshielded twisted pairs suitable for low-voltage door loop wiring; longer leads are available on request from the manufacturer. Plated contacts resist sticking or freezing, a practical consideration in areas subject to temperature swings or occasional moisture. Surface-mount geometry allows installation in sliding door tracks or crank-out window frames without edge-mount drilling.
