GRI 2800-W Surface Mount Water Contact Sensor

Overview

The GRI 2800-W is a surface-mounted water contact sensor that closes a dry contact when moisture bridges the sensor electrodes. Rated 5–24VDC and drawing minimal standby current (10 µA at maximum voltage), it detects conductive non-flammable liquids at depths as shallow as 1/16 inch. The sensor uses no mechanical parts—triggering via a moisture bridge across contacts—and includes a 6-foot jacketed lead as standard. Deploy this in equipment rooms, sub-floors, drain pans, bathrooms, and anywhere water intrusion could damage infrastructure before detection.

Compatibility

The 2800-W integrates with security control panels, building management systems, and alarm panels that accept two-wire discrete inputs or dry contact closure signals. Wire the red lead to 5–24VDC power and the black lead to ground; the sensor stimulates a simple normally-open dry contact suitable for most modern and legacy panels. Compatible with wireless transmitters that accept dry contact triggers. For systems requiring supervised loop monitoring, verify your panel can distinguish alarm state from normal. Custom lead lengths are available from the manufacturer if the standard 6-foot lead does not fit your installation geometry.

Installation Notes

Mount the sensor on surfaces where water will pool during a leak—under raised floors near CRAC units, along basement walls adjacent to water storage or piping, in drip pans, and within evaporative air conditioner overflow areas. Avoid mounting in locations where the sensor contacts won't actually contact water during a failure scenario. The sensor resets automatically when moisture is removed; no manual intervention is required. Maximum alarm current draw is 400 mA—confirm your control panel's sink/source capacity supports this. Operating voltage range of 5–24VDC accommodates both low-voltage alarm circuits and standard 12/24VDC building automation supplies.
