Geovision GV-COM-400 USB-to-Serial Adapter
Overview
The Geovision GV-COM-400 is a USB-to-serial converter that adds one RS-232 or RS-485 serial port to your Geovision surveillance system. This solves the deployment problem of integrating legacy POS terminals, access control devices, or remote instrumentation that require serial connectivity—equipment that most modern computers no longer have native serial ports for. The GV-COM-400 is plug-and-play: it connects via USB (backward compatible with USB 1.1 and USB 2.0), installs drivers automatically, and appears in Windows Device Manager as a Prolific USB-to-Serial Bridge. Use it to wire third-party serial devices into a Geovision VMS workstation or edge appliance without adding an internal expansion card.
Compatibility
The GV-COM-400 integrates with Geovision GV-System VMS software and GV-IO modules for extended relay or sensor control. It supports both RS-232 (DB9 connector with RTS/CTS or XON/XOFF flow control) and RS-485 (terminal block with D+/D- signals). This flexibility means it works with point-of-sale systems, barcode scanners, gate control hardware, and any third-party device expecting a standard serial port. No proprietary drivers beyond the Prolific chipset are required.
Installation Notes
Operating temperature range is 0–55°C with 5–95% non-condensing humidity—suitable for indoor control rooms and climate-controlled equipment closets. The adapter measures 103 (W) × 32 (H) × 64 (D) mm, so it fits in tight spaces behind monitors or in cable trays. Serial line protection is rated 16 kV ESD on all signals, protecting against static discharge damage during installation. Communication speed supports 600 bps to 115,200 bps; for connections exceeding 600 meters at high baud rates, install the supplied terminal resistor to maintain signal integrity on RS-485 lines. Data format is configurable: 7 or 8 data bits, 1 or 2 stop bits, and parity set to None, Even, or Odd.
