Lantronix EDS5016 16 Port Device Server
Overview
The Lantronix EDS5016 is a 16-port serial device server designed to bridge legacy serial equipment to modern IP networks. This unit allows you to remotely manage, monitor, and control serial devices such as industrial controllers, medical equipment, or point-of-sale systems over an Ethernet connection. It's ideal for environments where physical access to devices is limited or impractical, enabling centralized control and data acquisition from a single network interface. The EDS5016 model provides 16 serial ports, making it suitable for consolidating multiple serial devices into a manageable network infrastructure.
Compatibility
This device server is designed to interface with a wide range of serial devices utilizing RS-232, RS-422, or RS-485 interfaces. It is compatible with Lantronix's own management software and can be integrated into existing IP-based surveillance or industrial automation systems that support TCP/IP or UDP communication protocols. It functions as a network gateway for serial data, making it compatible with any host system capable of network communication.
Installation Notes
Installation requires connecting the device server to your network via its Ethernet port and then physically connecting your serial devices to the available DB9 (RS-232) or terminal block (RS-422/RS-485) ports. Configuration is typically performed via a web interface or console port, allowing you to define network settings, serial port parameters (baud rate, parity, data bits, stop bits), and communication modes (e.g., TCP server, TCP client, UDP). Ensure proper wiring for RS-422/RS-485 if using those protocols, paying attention to termination resistors if required by the connected serial devices.
