Compatibility

The E-1600-55A-CE is compatible with standard POTS telephone lines — no external power supply, power over Ethernet, or transformer required, since the unit draws entirely from the telephone line. It is designed for use within the Viking E-1600A series ecosystem and pairs with any custom panel face the installer provides. It is not a drop-in replacement for enclosure-mounted variants such as the E-1600A (steel enclosure, 5.25" x 4.0" x 2.0") or the stainless E-1600-SSA series — those include their own finished housings. Specify the E-1600-55A-CE when the panel face or elevator call-box trim is owner-furnished or architect-specified, and when CE marking is a project requirement. For projects with surface-mount or flush-mount enclosure needs, evaluate the appropriate enclosed E-1600A variant instead.

Installation Notes

Operating temperature range is -15°F to 130°F (-26°C to 54°C) — adequate for conditioned elevator machine rooms and most cab environments, but verify against shaft temperature extremes before specifying in unheated or industrial settings where the wider E-1600-55A-EWP (rated to 100% humidity) may be the better fit. Humidity tolerance is 5% to 95% non-condensing on standard products; use the EWP variant for wash-down or high-condensation environments. Wiring connects via four gel-filled butt connectors included with the kit — no punchdown block or separate connector hardware needed. Mount the assembly behind the custom panel, route the telephone line pair to the butt connectors, and trim the panel face to expose only the required cutouts (speaker, button). No supplemental power wiring required.
