Overview

The MB-MC400-5GB is a modular 5G modem upgrade for existing Cradlepoint router platforms. It delivers Gigabit-speed connectivity via 5G plus Gigabit-Class LTE Advanced Pro, allowing you to extend cellular capability on deployed hardware without replacing the entire routing unit. Install it into a compatible host and assign a 4FF SIM — no firmware updates or OS reconfiguration required. Designed for field upgrades in branches, mobile edge compute sites, or disaster recovery operations where you need to swap in 5G carrier support on hardware already running your networking stack.

Compatibility

The MB-MC400-5GB works with:

• R1900 Series routers — requires installation into the RX30-MC Extensibility Dock. The dock itself mounts into the R1900 slot and provides hot-swappable modem interface.
• IBR1700 — directly compatible; modem inserts into the internal module slot.
• AER2200 (End of Life) — legacy compatibility supported but units no longer shipped.

Dual-carrier capability activates only when the modem is installed in a COR Extensibility Dock or RX30-MC (available separately). Verify your target platform version and module slot specification before ordering — form-factor mismatch will prevent seating.

Installation Notes

The MB-MC400-5GB is hot-swappable in compatible docks and slots — power-down is not always required if the host platform supports live module swap. Insert the modem into the receiving slot until you hear the mechanical latch click. The unit requires a standard 4FF SIM card (contact your cellular carrier for provisioning). No additional tools or torque specs apply; hand-seating is sufficient. Ensure the host platform's firmware version supports 5G module detection before insertion — older firmware revisions may not enumerate the modem or apply correct cellular drivers.
