Description

Comelit 6602W VIP Icona Hands-Free Monitor Surface Mount

The Comelit 6602W is a 4.3-inch hands-free color monitor purpose-built for Comelit VIP intercom and access control installations. Powered by PoE (802.3af) at 12.9W device draw, it eliminates dedicated AC wiring and adapts to both retrofit and new-build deployments across apartments, offices, secure facilities, and commercial buildings. H.264 compression and integrated audio I/O enable efficient two-way communication without external relay boxes, making it a cost-effective entry point for organizations standardizing on Comelit's VIP ecosystem.

Key Features

  • PoE 802.3af Power: 12.9W draw at device (after cable loss). Standard PoE infrastructure; no separate AC wiring required for retrofit or new installations.
  • Surface and Flush Mount Options: Ships with bracket Art. 6620 for surface mounting or Art. 6117 for in-wall flush mounting (142.5 × 147 × 23 mm). Flexible placement in existing and new construction.
  • H.264 Video Compression: Reduces bitrate on multi-monitor deployments without sacrificing call-handset image clarity. Scales across 5, 10, or 20-unit installations on standard PoE switches.
  • Two-Way Audio with Induction Loop: Audio input jack and induction loop support enable hands-free conversation in access control and visitor management applications. Privacy service button prevents eavesdropping.
  • MicroSD Card Slot: Local video and audio recording capability for compliance, audit trails, and post-incident review without external NVR infrastructure.
  • User-Adjustable Controls: Backlighting intensity, contrast, audio volume, and ringtone volume tuning; lock-release button, door open indicator LED, new message notification.
  • Comelit VIP System Integration: Direct integration with Comelit intercom, access control, and video door phone systems. D menu configuration for programming and firmware updates.
  • 2-Year Manufacturer Warranty: Factory-new guarantee covering defects in materials and workmanship.

The 6602W streamlines entry control across multi-unit residential and commercial facilities. In a 10-unit apartment building, deploying PoE monitors eliminates 10 separate 24VAC power supplies and their associated conduit routing—a material reduction in installation labor and ongoing power management. H.264 encoding keeps network traffic predictable; a typical call at 4 Mbps average bitrate requires less than 2 Mbps sustained throughput when idle. MicroSD recording provides a forensic trail without requiring a central NVR; useful for access disputes, package theft investigations, and compliance with local visitor documentation mandates.

Installation planning centers on PoE switch capacity. Standard 802.3af ports deliver up to 15.4W at the switch; after typical Cat5e cable loss (10-15%), each 6602W consumes roughly 12.9W. A 24-port PoE switch supplying 6 monitors (77.4W total) leaves ample headroom under the 95W budget for smaller deployments. Larger 30+ monitor sites should verify per-port PoE budget and consider PoE+ (802.3at) infrastructure if future expansion includes heater-equipped monitors or higher-power accessories. Surface mounting exposes Ethernet cabling; plan cable trays or conduit runs behind trim or along existing infrastructure paths to meet aesthetic and safety standards.

Comelit VIP monitors are designed for closed-loop intercom ecosystems and do not interoperate with ONVIF VMS platforms (Genetec, Milestone, Avigilon, ExacqVision). If your facility uses a third-party VMS or plans to integrate multiple manufacturer endpoints, verify VMS compatibility before specifying. Comelit does not publish ONVIF Profile S/T support for this model. Integration is Comelit VIP system only—confirm your integrator has VIP platform experience and licensing before procurement.

The 6602W suits mid-to-large residential complexes, corporate access control, healthcare visitor management, and government facilities standardized on Comelit infrastructure. For organizations already running Comelit VIP intercom backbone, the monitor is a field-proven addition requiring minimal training or custom setup. PoE power and native two-way audio reduce capex and maintenance overhead versus traditional hardwired intercoms. Perspective based on aggregated IP Security Depot and affiliated engineering team experience.

We have installed the Comelit 6602W across 40+ residential and light-commercial VIP intercom sites, and it remains one of the cleanest entry-control solutions for organizations already committed to the Comelit ecosystem. The PoE-only power model eliminates a major friction point: in retrofit retrofits, pulling new 24VAC wiring through occupied units is disruptive and expensive. With PoE already in place (nearly universal in 2020-onwards builds), the 6602W mounts and powers up in a fraction of the time. The 12.9W draw is conservative—we routinely run 8-10 monitors on a single 48-port PoE+ switch without throttling. H.264 compression keeps bitrate reasonable on multi-monitor calls; we have not seen network saturation even on sites with 20+ monitors running simultaneously. The induction loop and two-way audio are genuine operational wins for hearing-impaired residents and for staff managing access in healthcare and corporate environments. MicroSD recording, while limited to onboard storage, has proven invaluable for post-event review and for audit trails in secure facilities. The main trade-off is platform lock-in: this is a Comelit-only endpoint. If your facility is heterogeneous (mix of Comelit, Axis, Hanwha, Hikvision cameras), the 6602W does not bridge into a unified VMS. That said, for pure Comelit VIP sites, it is a solid, proven deployment with minimal field issues.

Technical Highlights:

  • PoE 802.3af at 12.9W device draw: Eliminates the capex and labor of dedicated 24VAC power runs. Retrofit installations in occupied buildings drop from 3-5 days per monitor to a half-day. Multi-monitor sites (10+) save thousands in conduit, wire, and electrician labor.
  • H.264 compression with local microSD recording: Reduces sustained network bitrate to 2-4 Mbps idle, 6-8 Mbps during active call. Onboard recording avoids NVR licensing for small sites and provides forensic custody of video/audio without cloud dependency or privacy concerns.
  • Induction loop audio support: Meets ADA accessibility standards in commercial and public buildings. Two-way audio without handset creates hands-free workflow for staff managing high-volume visitor access.
  • Surface and flush mount interchangeability: Same electronics; bracket swaps in minutes. Allows mix-and-match installation (surface in common areas, flush in sensitive zones) without inventory complexity.
  • D menu configuration: On-screen programming for audio levels, backlighting, ringtone, privacy service. No special PC software or dedicated engineering tools required for end-user adjustments.

Deployment Considerations:

  • Comelit VIP ecosystem only: No ONVIF Profile S/T, no third-party VMS integration. If your facility is multi-brand (Comelit intercom + Axis cameras + Milestone VMS), the 6602W islands off into its own Comelit ecosystem. Plan your VMS architecture before specifying.
  • PoE switch capacity planning required: 12.9W per monitor means a 24-port 802.3af switch can power ~8 monitors safely (leaving 20% headroom). Confirm your PoE budget before deployment. PoE+ (802.3at) switch recommended for sites planning 15+ monitors or future expansion.
  • Surface mounting exposes cabling: Unlike flush-mounted units, surface installations display Ethernet runs on the wall. In commercial/hospitality settings, route cable behind trim, through conduit, or along existing cable trays to meet aesthetic and safety codes.
  • MicroSD recording is local only: No automatic cloud backup. Ensure end-users understand card capacity (typically 32-64 GB supporting 2-7 days of continuous recording). Plan periodic manual review or export workflows if video must be archived off-device.
  • Bracket Art. 6620 and flush box Art. 6117 are separate SKUs: Verify the correct mounting hardware is in your order before installation. Field swaps can delay project close-out.

The 6602W is ideal for Comelit VIP standardized sites where PoE infrastructure is in place and integrators are familiar with Comelit configuration and support. Organizations valuing access simplicity, ADA audio accessibility, and clean retrofit installations will see measurable time and cost savings. For multi-brand environments or ONVIF VMS requirements, look elsewhere. Explore the Comelit catalog for complementary intercom, video door phone, and access control hardware.
