Description

Lenovo 4Z57A72560 100M MLX HDR Optical QSFP56 Cable

Overview

The Lenovo 4Z57A72560 is a 100-meter HDR InfiniBand active optical cable (AOC) terminated with QSFP56 connectors on both ends, designed for long-distance interconnects in high-performance compute and AI fabric deployments. At 100 meters, this cable addresses the core challenge of spanning racks across large data hall footprints without signal degradation — distances where copper direct-attach simply stops working. The active optical design handles signal regeneration internally, so your switch and adapter ports see a clean 200Gb/s HDR link regardless of run length. Part number 4Z57A72560 sits at the top of Lenovo's HDR QSFP56 optical cable family, which spans 3m through 100m lengths to match any rack or row topology.

Compatibility

This cable is engineered for use with Lenovo ThinkSystem servers and adapters supporting HDR InfiniBand at 200Gb/s via QSFP56. Verified compatible adapter families include the ThinkSystem NVIDIA BlueField-3 B3220 VPI QSFP112 2-Port 200G PCIe Gen5 x16 (4XC7A87752), the BlueField-3 B3220 with Tin Plating Connector (4XC7B08942), and related BlueField-3 DPU adapters used in SR635 V3, SR645 V3, SR655 V3, SR850 V3, SR860 V3, SD630 V2, and SD650 V2 platform configurations. Compatible switch infrastructure must support HDR IB (200Gb/s) with QSFP56 ports — this is not compatible with HDR100, EDR, or FDR IB switches or with Ethernet-only QSFP56 switch ports. For shorter runs in the same HDR fabric, the active optical InfiniBand cable family includes 3m (4Z57A14188), 5m (4Z57A14189), 10m (4Z57A14190), 15m (4Z57A14191), and 20m (4Z57A14192) variants — choose the shortest cable that fits your topology to minimize latency in latency-sensitive HPC and AI networking environments. If your run is under 30 meters, also consider the 30m (4Z57A16016) and 50m (4Z57A16017) passive optical options, which carry lower cost when signal regeneration is not required at shorter distances.

Installation Notes

Active optical cables require both ends to be powered — verify that both the host adapter and the switch port are active before insertion. QSFP56 connectors are keyed and latch on insertion; release the pull-tab fully before extraction to avoid damage to the transceiver cage. At 100 meters, cable management is critical: plan conduit or cable tray routing before deployment to avoid sharp bends that can cause optical attenuation. Operating temperature range is 0°C to 55°C (32°F to 131°F), which covers standard data center environments but rules out uncontrolled-temperature cable runs through mechanical spaces or rooftop pathways.
