Description

Fortinet FN-TRAN-QSFP28-LR1 100GE QSFP28 LR1 Single-Mode Fiber Transceiver

Overview

The FN-TRAN-QSFP28-LR1 is a 100 Gigabit Ethernet QSFP28 form-factor transceiver engineered for long-range single-mode fiber runs up to 10KM. It slots into compatible Fortinet switches and routers to deliver full 100GbE throughput between data center distribution layers, campus core interconnects, or remote aggregation points where copper and short-reach optics fall short. If you're extending a 100GbE backbone across a campus ring or connecting geographically separated wiring closets without a media converter in the path, this is the purpose-built optic for that link.

Compatibility

The FN-TRAN-QSFP28-LR1 is designed for use in Fortinet platforms with QSFP28 slots, including the Fortinet switching and routing line that supports 100GbE fabric uplinks. Compatible host platforms typically include the FortiSwitch 7000 series and FortiGate high-end appliances with QSFP28-capable NIC or fabric module slots. Always verify your specific chassis model's transceiver compatibility list before ordering — QSFP28 slots are physically universal, but Fortinet firmware may enforce an approved optics list on managed platforms. Third-party QSFP28 100GbE LR optics are not a drop-in substitute if the platform enforces vendor locking. Consult the platform's hardware guide or a network switching specialist to confirm slot support before provisioning the fiber run.

Installation Notes

Single-mode fiber is required — this transceiver will not operate on multimode cable. Verify the patch panel and trunk fiber are OS2 (9/125µm) end to end. Clean the LC fiber connectors before insertion; contamination on a 100GbE single-mode interface degrades link margin faster than on shorter-reach optics. Insertion and extraction follow standard QSFP28 bail-clasp mechanics — no tools required, but power down or use hot-swap procedures per the host platform's guidelines to avoid interface errors during swap. For link distances beyond 10KM, this LR1 variant is not rated and a different optic family is required.
