Description

Fortinet FN-TRAN-QSFP28-SR-TAA 100GE QSFP28 SR TAA-Compliant Transceiver Module

Overview

The FN-TRAN-QSFP28-SR-TAA is a 100 Gigabit Ethernet QSFP28 transceiver module from Fortinet's Fortinet networking line, designed for 4-channel parallel fiber short-reach deployments. The TAA (Trade Agreements Act) designation makes this the correct choice for U.S. federal, SLED, and government-contract network builds where TAA compliance is a procurement requirement — the non-TAA variant cannot substitute in those environments. At 100GbE speeds, this transceiver handles the backbone throughput demands of high-density data center switching and aggregation layers where bandwidth headroom is non-negotiable.

Compatibility

This module is designed for use with Fortinet FortiSwitch and FortiGate platforms that carry QSFP28 expansion slots supporting 100GbE line rates. The 4-channel parallel fiber (MPO/MTP) interface requires OM4 or OM3 multimode fiber infrastructure — OM4 is strongly preferred for reaching the full short-reach distance envelope. This is a parallel-optic module, not a duplex LC type; verify your fiber plant uses MPO/MTP trunk cabling before ordering. It is not compatible with SFP+, SFP28, or QSFP+ slots — the QSFP28 form factor is specific and non-interchangeable. For inter-switch links within a transceiver-equipped structured cabling environment, confirm the far-end switch also accepts QSFP28 SR modules. Mixing SR with LR or CWDM variants on the same link will result in a failed optical link — both ends must match.

Installation Notes

Insert the module into a powered-down or hot-swap-capable QSFP28 cage only — forced insertion into a mismatched cage damages the electrical connector. MPO fiber connectors are polarity-sensitive; use Method B (straight-through) MPO trunks standard for parallel 100GbE deployments to avoid channel-pair reversal. Clean fiber end-faces before insertion — contamination is the leading cause of intermittent link errors at 100GbE. TAA compliance should be documented at procurement; retain the invoice and part number confirmation for contract audit purposes.
