Description

Vertiv HMX5150T-VGA IP KVM Transmitter, VGA, USB 2.0, Zero-U

Overview

The HMX5150T-VGA is the transmitter (TX) unit in Vertiv's Avocent HMX KVM-over-IP architecture. It installs at the source computer — capturing VGA video and USB 2.0 keyboard/mouse signals — then delivers them across an IP network to a paired HMX receiver at the operator workstation. Zero-U form factor keeps the unit out of rack unit space, mounting directly behind the target server or workstation without consuming a rack slot. This matters in dense deployments where rack real estate is measured carefully. The transmitter role in the HMX platform means this unit has no standalone function; it requires a compatible HMX receiver to complete the KVM extension link. Current firmware for the HMX5150T-VGA is v4.10.10 and v4.10.11 (released August 2024).

Compatibility

The HMX5150T-VGA is designed for the Vertiv Avocent HMX 5000 and HMX 6000 series IP KVM platforms. On the receiver side, compatible units include the HMX 5100 Receiver (firmware v5.3.53065 / v5.2.52850) and the HMX 6500 Receiver (firmware v1.5.0.0 / v1.4.0.0 / v1.3.1.7). The HMX 6200 DisplayPort Receiver and HMX 8000 series operate on separate firmware branches and are intended for their respective transmitter counterparts — do not assume cross-series pairing without verifying platform compatibility with Vertiv documentation. This transmitter outputs VGA video only; if your target server uses DisplayPort or HDMI, a different HMX TX variant is required. USB 2.0 support covers standard HID peripherals (keyboard, mouse) and USB device extension depending on receiver configuration.
