Overview
The C2G CG26844 is a tone generator and probe kit designed for tracing and identifying specific cables within a bundle or network infrastructure. This tool is essential for technicians performing installations, troubleshooting, or maintenance on low-voltage cabling systems, including network, telephone, and audio/video lines. Its ability to isolate individual cables simplifies complex wiring environments, reducing diagnostic time and preventing accidental disconnections of critical lines.
Compatibility
This kit is designed for use with standard copper-based telecommunications and data cabling, including Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a, and telephone wiring. It is compatible with virtually any unshielded twisted pair (UTP) or shielded twisted pair (STP) cable, as well as single-conductor wires commonly found in low-voltage installations. It is not designed for use on live AC power lines.
Installation Notes
The tone generator connects to the cable under test via its RJ45 or alligator clip leads. The probe is then used to audibly detect the transmitted tone along the cable path. For best results, ensure the cable being traced is disconnected from active network equipment or power sources to avoid interference or damage to the equipment. Use the alligator clips for direct connection to individual wires when an RJ45 connector is not present or accessible.
