The Allied Telesis AT-IMC2000T/SP-980 is a TAA-compliant, industrial-temperature gigabit media converter that bridges a 10/100/1000BASE-T copper segment to a 100X/1000X SFP fiber or copper SFP slot. It solves the common deployment problem of extending Ethernet across distances copper can't reach — or isolating electrical domains — while keeping full gigabit throughput on both sides. The industrial temperature rating makes it a fit for wiring closets, factory floors, outdoor enclosures, and other environments where standard commercial-grade hardware isn't rated to operate reliably. TAA compliance means it satisfies federal procurement requirements without requiring a product substitution mid-project.
The AT-IMC2000T/SP-980 accepts any 100BASE-X or 1000BASE-X SFP module in its open SFP slot, giving you control over fiber type (single-mode or multimode), wavelength, and reach. The copper side auto-negotiates 10/100/1000BASE-T, so it drops into existing infrastructure without forcing a speed match. Confirm SFP compatibility against the Allied Telesis validated SFP list for this platform before ordering third-party modules — Allied Telesis Allied Telesis networking products datasheets specify which SFPs are qualified. For structured cabling and fiber planning, review your media converter requirements to ensure the SFP reach and fiber type align with the installed plant. This unit is suited for integration into managed switch uplink scenarios where a copper-to-fiber hand-off is needed at the edge.
The industrial temperature rating extends the usable operating range beyond standard 0°C–50°C commercial limits — verify the exact range in the Allied Telesis datasheet before deploying in extreme cold or heat. Power the unit from a compatible DC source or verify chassis slot power if deploying in a modular chassis context. Confirm the SFP module is seated and locked before energizing. No tools are required for SFP insertion; copper side uses a standard RJ-45 connection.
