Description

Lantronix SLC80082201S 8-Port Advanced Console Manager

Overview

The Lantronix SLC80082201S is a 1U rack-mountable advanced console server built for out-of-band management of data center and network infrastructure. It gives IT and network operations teams persistent RS-232 serial access to routers, switches, network switches, servers, and security appliances — without relying on the in-band network that may be the very thing under repair. With the SLC80082201S, you can reconfigure, reboot, or reload firmware on connected devices from a single console point, using standard Telnet/SSH or a browser-based client — no proprietary software required. Dual AC power input means a single power-supply failure doesn't take your management plane with it, a critical consideration in any environment where you need guaranteed access during an outage. RoHS compliance makes this suitable for deployments with environmental procurement requirements.

Connectivity and Access

The SLC80082201S provides 8 RS-232 serial ports over RJ-45 for direct console connections to attached devices. A 100Mb LAN interface handles in-band management traffic. Out-of-band access options — including dial-up and cellular — are supported through the modular SLC 8000 platform architecture, letting you reach equipment even when the primary network is completely down. The platform scales to 48 ports as needs grow, so the 8-port configuration is a practical starting point for a remote edge site or a dedicated management segment in a larger network management architecture. SSH and Telnet sessions are accessible via browser or CLI, keeping access consistent with existing operational tooling.

Compatibility

The SLC80082201S is part of the Lantronix SLC 8000 platform family. It is compatible with any IT device that exposes an RS-232 serial console port — including Cisco, Juniper, Arista, HPE, and Dell network equipment, as well as network video recorders, UPS systems, and industrial controllers. The modular SLC 8000 chassis accepts optional expansion modules for Ethernet, USB serial, and SFP uplinks, so the base 8-port unit can be built out to match the port density required at each site without replacing the management software configuration.

Installation Notes

Mounts in a standard 1U rack slot. Dual AC power inputs should be connected to separate power circuits or separate PDUs to realize the redundancy benefit — wiring both inputs to the same circuit defeats the purpose. Serial ports use RJ-45 connectors; verify your rollover or straight-through cable pinout matches the target device before deployment, as pinouts vary by equipment vendor.
